MAYANS at the Avalon Marshes Centre

On Saturday 11th June, the new Mick Aston Young Archaeologists’ Club (MAYA) will be holding a family activity day at the Avalon Marshes Centre, supported by the Hinkley Point Archaeology Outreach team.  Children will be able to get hands-on with experimental activities and should be prepared to get messy!

The club is open for anyone age 8-16 years and is an opportunity to get involved in all sorts of activities, including visiting and investigating archaeological sites and historic places, trying out traditional crafts, taking part in excavations and lots more.  The club has been set in memory of Professor Mick Aston from the TV programme Time Team, who was very keen to set up a new YAC club for Somerset.  Further information can be found by contacting Liz Caldwell, yac@sanhs.org, http://www.yacsomerset.co.uk/

Work is progressing well on the new buildings at the centre.  Volunteers have been helping to construct two buildings, a Roman dining room with underfloor heating and a Saxon timber framed hall.  Once complete they will be used for educational sessions with schools.
