‘Into The Woods’ at the Somerset Learning Forum

The Hinkley Point Archaeology Outreach team recently took part in the Somerset Learning Forum day at Tyntesfield House, North Somerset.

The Somerset Learning Forum meets twice a year bringing together heritage learning staff and volunteers, to network and share skills.  The theme of this meeting was outdoor learning and the Hinkley team were well placed to give a case study about running archaeological excavations with primary schools.  There were also case studies from the National Trust and The Willows and Wetlands Centre.

It also gave us the chance to display copies of archaeological drawings of Hinkley Point, produced by Time Team’s illustrator, Victor Ambrus.

The afternoon was spent in the woods of the Tyntesfield estate, providing a fantastic opportunity to get creative; making woodland tree spirits from clay and collecting natural materials for the ‘eggbox’ quiz!

Thank you to the National Trust for hosting such an enjoyable and inspiring day!
